Korea - Day 5 - It Works!

Again, thanks to jetlag (and going to bed last night before 7:00pm) I was up by 2:30am. I must say that I enjoy waking up early and having this time to pray, think, read and set up my day. I suppose the key to that is getting to bed by 7:00pm. But that would seem so antisocial back home. I called the family, checked in on my technical support issues (resolved!) and got ready to head off to work.

After breakfast I started walking to the post. I figured it would be a nice walk. A few minutes later a taxi slowed down figuring that he could pick me up. I smiled and took him up on his "offer" of a ride to the post. The cab ride was only 2900 won. ($1 US = 1100 won). I met my contact at the gate, went through the sign-in process and got to the classroom. Thankfully the heat had been turned off yesterday, but they hadn't turned on the air conditioners yet. So the room was still a sweltering 82 degrees.

Today the students did lab exercises to make up for what didn't happen yesterday. Thankfully the labs went off without a hitch. The students deeply appreciated the hands-on time with the product and the lack of "Death by PowerPoint" as it its known throughout the service. Lunch today was at a "Food Court" of sorts on post. All I felt like eating was a salad and a slice of cheesecake.

After class my contact drove me back to the hotel. Once there I went to the front desk to pick up my laundry, which hadn't yet been returned. I also asked about extending my stay a few more nights. The lady at the front desk was even more apologetic as she explained that an international conference was coming to town and there was no availability.

Exhausted, and knowing that I'll be checking out tomorrow, I trudged up to my room and flopped on my bed. A few minutes later the phone rang. My contact offered to take me to a Korean professional baseball game. I was so tired I politely declined and suggested I might be up for it next week. The phone rang again, and it was the front desk informing me that a room was available until Friday. Well, at least that gets me through the week. Not five minutes after that my doorbell rang (yes, my hotel room has a doorbell). The valet was returning my laundry.

Not a bad day, in fact a pretty good one. Except for the fact that it is only 6:00pm and I am overwhelmingly sleepy.
